Two Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff members who were being held in custody in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR), were released on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Our colleagues, one of French and one of Central African nationality, were arrested in Zemio, in the south of the country, on March 4.
We are relieved that a swift resolution was found to this incident. We thank all the authorities who contributed to this positive outcome.
MSF has been present in CAR since 1997, and is currently working in collaboration with the health authorities in nine locations in the country. In 2025, our teams delivered 404,364 medical consultations, carried out 9,978 surgical procedures, and treated 235,128 cases of malaria.
In CAR, MSF employs more than 3,400 people, of whom over 90 percent are Central African, including 1,438 who are under the authority of the Ministry of Health.
